VELLATTANJUR FATHIMA MATHA CHURCH
THE FIRST FATHIMA MATHA CHURCH IN INDIA

Holy Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus appeared to three children (shepherd’s) named Luciya, Francisco and Jaseentha in a small village called ‘Fathima’ in Portugal  since 13th May,1917 in every month upto13th October .The mother gave messages through these children to the world. People hear these messages and flowed to Fathima. Hence leadership of the church learned these visions seriously. 

            Since 1930 the then Popes directly and indirectly referred and revealed the visions of Fathima to the world. In May 13th 1942 Pop Pius xiith approved the visions of Fathima. The holy statue of Fathima Matha has been carried and sent out from Fathima to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal in 1946 with prayerful pilgrimage. In this pilgrimage several wonders have been worshipped. In this period our Bishop of Thrissur was Mar George Alapatt, who earnestly desired to have a church in the name of Fathima Matha in this Diocese, seeing the visions and popularity of Fathima Matha. As such to fulfill his desire the holy statue of Fathima Matha has been brought to our church and in February 12th 1946, Vellattanjur church has been established and devoted in the name of Fathima Matha’s mediation. Hence The first Fathima Matha Church in India has been established in Vellattanjur, Thrissur Diocese, Kerala State.
